Pedal Pursuit – FAQs

About how many miles is the Pedal Pursuit course?
The length of the course will vary depending on the exact route each team takes, but it is approximately 15-20 miles long.

About how long will it take my team to complete the Pedal Pursuit course?
We estimate that each team will ride the course and complete the obstacles/clues in roughly 3-4 hours.

What kind of bike do I need to ride?
Any kind you’d like!  There will be no off-roading on the Pedal Pursuit course. So, you may choose to ride a mountain bike, but you do not need to.

What should I bring with me?
Every member of the team should wear a helmet and rain gear.  Each team should also have at least one member who will carry a smartphone with an Instagram app.  At least one member of the team should carry a small backpack or a pannier, which contains the event packet (you will get this the day of the event at registration), an extra bike tube, a pump, and bike tools. Each team also needs enough bike locks to lock up all team bikes.

Will the ride be supported?
As noted, we ask that each team carry at least one extra tube, a pump, and bike tools in the event of a flat tire.  There will be two sag wagons on the course in the event of injuries or emergencies.  You will be given a telephone number to call if you need the sag wagon. But generally speaking, we expect you to fix your own flat.

How will we know if we have reached a checkpoint?
Each checkpoint will be staffed by 1-2 NEDC volunteers.  They will probably be waving you down as you approach.

What if I get lost or can’t figure out where to go?  If you can’t find the next Checkpoint, all you have to do is ask and we will give you directions. It will only cost you thirty minutes (we will add it to your time at the finish).  To get directions, go back to any of the Checkpoints you have already completed, including Lagunitas, and we will get you pointed in the right direction.
